Razov proved himself to be a study in contrasts.

On the one hand, as one of the Fangs, he was one of the most feared beings on the entire station. That’s saying something when a Vinduthi, any Vinduthi, can lay claim to being a source of terror.

On the other hand, Razov made me feel safe, protected.

Cherished.

He even seemed to have a genuine interest in rescuing Mera. I didn’t know if the last bit had to do with his devotion to his superior, Alkard, but I didn’t care.

If he wanted to help find my friend, I was on his side.

We didn’t get a lot of sleep at Kalak’s apartment…even though we spent almost the entire time in bed.

I would have pegged Razov for the kind of guy who was out for his own pleasure, but I would have been dead wrong. He made sure that I was taken care of. And then some.

Maybe that’s why when I finally did fall asleep, I slept like the dead. When I’d been down in the Under, deep sleep was a luxury I couldn’t afford. You never knew when someone was going to try and take what you had…even if all you had was yourself.

But in Razov’s arms, I could let myself relax completely.

I awakened to the sound of voices out in the main section of Kalak’s home. Even before my eyes opened, I felt the warmth of Razov’s body spooning my own. I snuggled into him and sighed.

This wasn’t going to last. It couldn’t. I knew that, but just for the moment, I could pretend.

Maybe he’d be done with me tomorrow, but I intended to enjoy this moment to the fullest.

Which of course meant I would be interrupted.

The soft rap at the door was insistent and yet somehow polite.

“Master Kwayd?” Kalak sounded like he was genuinely upset about having to disturb us. “Are you awake?”

Razov stirred instantly, which made me wonder if he had actually been asleep or not. His cock twitched hard right before he rolled away from me and stood on the floor. I drew the blankets over myself in the nick of time as Razov opened the door. He stood framed in the doorway, naked as a jaybird, his form a silhouette.

If Kalak had any reaction to Razov standing there with it all hanging out, he gave no sign.

“What is it?” Razov asked.

“I wanted to inform you that the Metro is no longer under lockdown. You may leave if you wish…however, that other matter I spoke of has been moved up on my itinerary. If you’d like to be involved, I can make it worth your while.”

Razov stiffened up.

“You still haven’t told me what this job is. I need to at least know a general idea of what I will be doing.”

“I can’t tell you too much, except that it involves military grade equipment.”

Razov perked up. I felt it more than saw it, but I could tell he thought this would be a lead on the missing guns.

“I’m in.”

“Ah, excellent. Your associates on this job are already here, and await your convenience.
